LAMP 2007 in Toronto

LAMP 2007 in Toronto is a leadership and best practices program for managers and leaders within the insurance industry. Sponsored by GAMA which has upwards of 5000 members, the speakers consisted of both keynote professionals, think ‘Chris Gardner’, the author and leading man in his book “Pursuit of Happyness”, and a very compelling speaker, as well as the best, most effective leaders in our industry, showing their peers how to improve their leadership and management game. The spirit of generosity is palpable, and if you are serious about getting inside information on how the best are running their firms, helping people, while making a great living — this is a not to be missed program.

As one of the featured coaches in a high profile GAMA program titled “Essentials of Leadership and Management”, they wanted to introduce me at the “Essentials” breakfast, which was at 6am (I thought this has to be a daylight savings time mistake, but no, they are that crazy and ambitious). “Essentials” is a GREAT program, featuring the legends of our industry, talking about how to run your business, what they did right and what mistakes to avoid. Have you attended or sent your sales management team yet?

Feeling a little bitter about having my sleep interrupted, I couldn’t imagine more than a handful of people showing up at that insane hour, but had made a commitment, so off I went. When I walked through the door, I couldn’t believe my eyes, there were about 350 in attendance, including the legends who we have on video for the “Essentials” program! All on their own time, just out of pure generosity to help those who will receive the torch and carry forward this industry. Very impressive!

So here’s the deal, if you are really committed to being your professional best, you need to surround yourself with people who are great, who constantly strive to get better, who like to have fun, and who get their grins from helping other people achieve their best. You also need to become one of those people! Are you?
