What Do You Procrastinate On?

For the most part, I don’t procrastinate on much — but lately I’m procrastinating on 4 things that pertain to business and another 4 items personally! I can’t tell you how much that annoys me and for those in my shoes, procrastination (that you feel guilty about) weighs on us and takes away a bit of our energy. Whatever is on your “important” list needs to be handled or delegated, because as Leaders we can ill afford even a drop of our energy being wasted.

What am I currently procrastinating on? For starters, no matter how often I clean out my e-mail, it seems that within a week its back up to 500 — and each email needs a response –mostly what needs to be done is administrative and quite frankly (here comes the justification) I’m not paid to be an administrative assistant. And even more embarrassing is I have 3 people on my team, any one of whom can handle the task, and I still have not given it up to them! 99% of our clients suffer from a similar e-mail dilemma and for most it’s even worse than me because they are in the securities industry and have a whole other level of oversight and responsibility when it comes to e-mail and suitability, etc. My client B. Lee Harrison, President of Florida Financial, has solved this problem by grooming his assistant to screen through all of his e-mails and only pass along those that he absolutely needs to see. Having won the coveted President’s Trophy, which is based on specific performance measures for Guardian — he is highly esteemed by his peers for building such a rock solid organization that constantly delivers quality financial solutions to their ever growing client list — this is a man whose footsteps are to be followed.

For the record, I’m rethinking my e-mail strategy and frankly, in my line of work, e-mail won’t make or break me. But it’s that nagging feeling of not getting something done that really gets to me and to you as well! What really matters for my business is that I focus on 3 Key Success Factors:

1) Growing MK Performance Group through new and current clients,
2) Having clients achieve the results they hired us to help them accomplish (and be thrilled about it),
3) Employing systems and people that allow us to deliver world class service to our clients (that our clients can’t get anywhere else).

Anything that doesn’t fall into those three categories, should not be getting my time.

What are your top 3 Key Success Factors to achieving what you want professionally? How are you making them your top priority?

What are you currently procrastinating about? How can you get that handled ASAP so you can focus on what really matters?!
